Press Release
O Gallery is pleased to present Still Point, a selection of its private collection.
At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless;
Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is,
But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity,
Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards,
Neither ascent nor decline. Except for the point, the still point,
There would be no dance, and there is only the dance.
I can only say, there we have been: but I cannot say where.
And I cannot say, how long, for that is to place it in time.
- excerpt from Four Quartets by T.S. Elliot
Still Point, inspired by T.S. Eliot’s concept of a motionless center within a turning world, serves as a metaphor for the unseen spaces and quiet forces that subtly shape our understanding of existence. It represents a paradoxical space where movement ceases, yet the essence of life is concentrated—a presence bound in stillness, resonating the enigmatic qualities that hold the fabric of reality together; unseen yet powerful.
The works on display explore themes of the empty, the unseen and the hidden spaces in between. Echoing Eliot’s insight that these in-between, unseen spaces are essential for revelation and presence; space itself becomes a subject here, explored in its purest form that resonates as both medium and metaphor, interpreted uniquely by each artist. They delve beyond the visible surface, meditating on the vast expanses of invisible forces that connect or separate, bridging the known and the unknown, the defined and the undefined. Space emerges as both boundary and threshold, tangible yet imagined, continuously reshaped by perception.
This mysterious quality reflects the liminal zones central to human experience—the pause between breaths, the silence between musical notes, the gaps in memory and the undefined spaces within relationships and self-identity. Just as Eliot’s Still Point holds time and movement in a delicate balance, these spaces carry an intensity and influence that suggests absence can be as powerful as presence.
In contemplating the unseen, this exhibition invites us to recognize the profound significance of what lies beyond sight, engaging us in a quiet but potent reflection on the invisible forces that shape both the universe and our inner worlds.
Furthermore, it invites viewers to contemplate space—not only as a physical construct, but as something perceived, imagined and continually negotiated within the layers of human experience.
This exhibition represents one part of a more expansive collection built over the past 15 years, embodying the gallery’s dedication to art that examines not just what is seen, but what is felt and remembered.
