O Gallery presents “Resting-Place,” a collection of recent paintings by Hamidreza Emami (b.1973, Mashhad). By portraying light and shadow in an excessive manner, simplifying surfaces and eliminating detail in his work, Emami gives each work a mysterious and illusionistic quality, while capturing a realistic glimpse of his city, Mashhad’s alleys and rooftops,. Alleys and rooftops are in fact spaces between the house and the city, but they are also representative of humans’ confrontations and conflicts: the confrontation of private and public affairs, idleness and passage, remembrance and oblivion, foreign and familiar …
