O Gallery presents “Identity,” a collection of paintings by Habib Moradi (b. 1977 Tabriz).
The works on display have been selected from three different collections on which the artist has been working on for the past five years.
Using the same technique as traditional miniaturists, the process is twofold. First comes preparation and then the actual painting process. The craftmanship includes preparing the material such as paper, brushes and colors continuing unto the presentation of the final work, finishing with custom-made passe-partout and frames.
The painting, though similar in technique to traditional miniatures, has its own unique way of representation. Through a contemporary reading of Persian miniatures, Moradi portrays pressing social issues alongside faceless figures, depicting duplicate identities backed by numerous existing images. Free from any specific reference, the works are a metaphorical mixture, fused with the hustle of the contemporary and modern world.
