O Gallery presents “Wetland”, a solo exhibition of works by Hosein Hasanshahy (b. 1985 Ahvaz).
Hosein Hasanshahy’s interest in music goes back to his childhood and his exposure to traditional Southern ceremonies. He gradually became more fascinated with local Southern conventions and music as he became more acquainted with their culture.
The artist has been working on the collection on display for the past three years; initially intending to make an animation, the outcome resulted in a series of sculptures with his interest in experiencing and representing this culture in a different medium.
In this collection, Hasanshahy has taken advantage of the dynamism in Iran’s Southern traditions and art to embody the distinctive features of this geography, inspired by the subcultures of the entire Southern region: from Khuzestan to Sistan and Baluchestan. The material used is mostly rusted metals which reflect the visual and content characteristics of this area.
