O Gallery presents a solo exhibition of works on paper by Samaneh Samimi (b. 1982 Shiraz).
City gardens, mountains in close proximity and the specific climatic features of Shiraz, are the main drives behind the creation of the collection on display. Later, the artist noticed the landscaping tradition in Shiraz’s contemporary painting developed by Gholamhossein Saber and his students. Although she does not consider herself in exact accordance to them in technical terms and approach, this stream has motivated her in her path.
The work on this collection began in 2014, featuring chalcography and ink drawings. Printmaking provides Samimi with the possibility of processing details in small dimensions, layering and multiple acidifications. Drawing, on the other hand, giving her the opportunity of empiricism with material, forms a different expressive experience as the dimension enlarge.
Furthermore, shadings resulting from the light in original image references, have been replaced by less descriptive shades. The artist often creates dense or solitary figures, entangled with others by evoking familiar scenes.
