O Gallery presents “Portraits Behind the Face”, a solo exhibition of works on paper by Ghazaleh Khoshghadam (b. 1992 Hamedan).
In the collection on display, the artist explores the flux between the human portrait and the spirit. While maintaining a connection to the reality of the subject, she uses portraiture as a means to emphasize the inner reflections. To diversify the psychological and personal layers of each character, Khoshghadam takes advantage of a limited, yet unconventional color palette, as well as different forms and strokes for each of her subjects.
While working on this series, the artist has experienced with different materials such as oil on canvas and sewing on fabric, where the stitches on the fabric are quite similar to the pencil strokes. In contrast to representational purposes, with the technique that tends to be bold with powerful lines, flat areas, and high contrast, these works are a study to perhaps find a way into the soul.
