O Gallery presents a group exhibition selected by Samaneh Samimi.
The show on display is a collection of paintings by five emerging artists, living and working in different cities of Iran. Parviz Abyazi (b. 1984 Tabriz), Leila Haghshenas Lari (b. 1983 Shiraz), Hosein Mohamadi (b. 1993 Khoramabad), Hamidreza Norouzi (b. 1998 Isfahan), and Mohamadhosein Xatamifar (b. 1996 Yazd) have all focused on Still Life painting in their practice for the past years.
From an aesthetic perspective, the still life genre has its roots in representational painting where the technical skills of the artist can be celebrated through an individual standpoint. On the other hand, for centuries, still life painters have made metaphors for morality and mortality as well as celebrations of the future and reflections of the past by evaluating contemporary culture through the objects that saturate our everyday lives – focusing on objects that tells stories of our homes. That is perhaps the string that ties these five artists together most closely.
