Press Release
O Gallery in collaboration with Aaran Projects presents “Undesirable and Unpleasant”, an exhibition by Studio 51.
“Undesirable and Unpleasant” is a collection in which, using different mediums, including installations, sculptures and performance, the artists exercise rage with/on the material.
This is an attempt to make the material reach a threshold where, rather than merely representing something, it becomes threatening and rebellious with its material potentials. In this process, strategies are employed that either attack and destroy the material itself or use techniques such as sharpening, disturbing, piling up, pouring, twisting and interweaving to make the material adopt aggressive postures and revolt against form.
Studio 51, established in 2015, was founded to carry out joint projects by Bahar Samadi (b. 1981, Tehran) and Navid Salajegheh (b. 1981, Tehran). The outcome of these collaborations has been the creation of multisensory experiences—tactile, visual and auditory—that have been achieved through establishing new relationships between content and form, as well as experiencing various methods of collaborative work across different media.
