O/UT PROJECTS in collaboration with ZONPASS
"Tan/Yaad" by Sogol Ahadi has taken shape solely through adopting a single decision and its uninterrupted continuation to the greatest extent possible; the daily performance of a few trivial and repetitive acts with paper that ultimately, through months of the artist’s sustained concentration, become intertwined in a dynamic figure and structure and acquire meaning. This prolonged manual experience brings the delicate and light surface of paper to a quality where the skin comes alive, the layers breathe alongside and against one another, and playfully shimmer under shifting light.
In the process of creating the works, the larger and more expanded this organism appears, the more palpable the impact of the encapsulated moments becomes, and each work, like an unfinished being, perpetually remains on the threshold of continuation: interrupted yet quietly waiting. She surrenders to time with patient insistence, cycling through acts that seem both futile and essential. In this approach, repetition is not a mechanical and automatic matter but a faithful and premeditated path; a conscious choice to eliminate the exhausting process of decision-making; an abyss for pure liberation and a personal ascetic practice for resting in an anxiety-free trance.
In this bodily, disciplined persistence, "Tan/Yaad" by Sogol comes into being and grows, rises and saunters, sways and crumples, and slips and falls; as if the porous bodies of the works in the collection, far from merely being remnants of the artist, become extensions of veins, hands and eyes and ultimately the entire body; the continuation of muscle memory, the multiplication of drawn-out breaths, and a futile monument to the days and nights that have been continually dissolved into time.
