O Gallery, presents "Resident Undeadness", Sina Boroumandi’s (b. 1980 Tehran) fifth solo show with the gallery.
This exhibition consists of three parallel narratives that are evidently intertwined in meaning. The images are produced in an urban environment in an attempt to capture moments from the life of society.
In one narrative, we see figures in an urban space, sometimes without heads, without bodies - devoid of human existence. Only in the form of humans. In some instances, we see shadows whose physical references have been annihilated, with only small traces in the images that hint at the figures being alive and having bodies. These figures are depicted as if they are non-existent residents, surrounded by this urban space.
In another narrative, composed of manipulated images of objects resembling urban sculptures, a haunting and nightmarish feeling is evoked, as if symbolizing a hidden, constant, and ever-present fear—an emotion that accompanies the existence of its inhabitants in all circumstances.
The third narrative consists of portraits that, due to their extreme blurriness, resemble portraits of death more than images of a living being.
These works address a society formed from non-existent elements, in a haunting coexistence with death. “Resident Undeadness” is the outcome of this coexistence.
