Press Release

O Gallery presents "Folding Time", a collection of recent works by Elham Yazdanian (b. 1979), marking the artist’s fourth solo show with the gallery.

This new body of work, developed over the past three years, comprises large scale works on paper rendered with mainly printmaking ink and pencil in addition to ink and charcoal. In this collection, Yazdanian extends her ongoing exploration of architectural spaces, drawing from her earlier series to create intricate black-toned compositions. These works maintain a strong representational focus, depicting architectural details such as stairs and columns, while incorporating collage elements that add layers of complexity. The resulting pieces blur the lines between detailed representation and the act of deconstruction, evoking a sense of memory, transformation and the passage of time. They navigate the liminal space between the familiar and the unknown, where the boundaries of the past and present fold into each other.
Reflecting on the series, Yazdanian states:
"To recall a memory, a space, a place; to dissolve the distance, and in that journey, to construct a new elsewhere—one for that ambiguous, familiar-yet-unfamiliar form."
The exhibition invites viewers to delve into a meditative dialogue on the perception of time, space and the nature of memory.
